For my masters class Media Theory and Application, we were tasked to create a short explainer video about Chomsky’s book “Manufacturing Consent.” The purpose of my animation is to educate audiences about how the news is shaped/controlled by institutions/elites through the work of Noam Chomsky’s Manufacturing Consent and through his East Timor Case Study. The issues and themes mainly revolve around Noam Chomsky’s case study of East Timor. The atrocity that occurred could have been further prevented had the world been exposed to what was going on. This is the point Noam Chomsky makes in his book Manufacturing Consent. He argues that the news is controlled by institutions and as a result the content suits their interests.
